Chelsea look to steal a match in the race for second
Chelsea will look to steal a march in the race for second place in the Premier League when they host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 13 January 2018, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.
Chelsea come into the game placed third on the log – one point behind second-placed Manchester United and two ahead of fourth-placed Liverpool – but with their rivals only in action on Monday and Sunday respectively, this match gives them a chance to bank three points and put the pressure on.
The Blues were last in action on Wednesday evening when they were held to a goalless draw by Arsenal in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal, while last weekend they recorded the same score line away to Norwich City in the FA Cup.
Leicester were also unable to get the better of lower-league opponents in the FA Cup, drawing 0-0 at Fleetwood Town, but at least their last Premier League outing produced some smiles, as Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton all scored to secure a 3-0 home win over Huddersfield Town – the result left the Foxes in a comfortable eighth place.
In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Leicester have met in 82 matches across all competitions. The Blues have claimed 40 wins compared to 18 for the Foxes, while 24 games have been drawn.
The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash back in September 2017 which saw Chelsea claim a 2-1 away win at King Power Stadium thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and former Foxes star N’Golo Kante.
