Another Springbok has announced their exit from not just International Rugby but club rugby. Bryan Habana is the latest Bok to go into retirement after Hougaard made the decision last week.
Habana one of South Africas darlings in Rugby is the all-time leading try scorer, he has scored 67 times in just 124 tests. He announced on Instagram that the time has come for him to retire from all rugby at the end of the season, age 34.
It’s been more than a year of hoping, trying, pushing and willing to get back on the field for one last time, to taste the sweet victory or encounter that gut-wrenching despair. To hear the roar of the crowd or grab the pill out of the air. To make that last bone crunching tackle or score that last game winning try. But it’s unfortunately just not to be. I, like most, would have liked my career to have ended differently, but sometimes things don’t turn out quite the way we hope for.
Bryan will be hanging up his boots after 16 years on the field. We hope he finds his way back to the game as a coach or manager soon.
